The "black boxes" (FDR - Flight Data Recorder and CVR - Cockpit Voice Recorder) from the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane that tragically crashed near Aktau have been delivered from Brazil to Astana, Kazakhstan, and handed over to the investigative commission.

The decrypted data from the flight recorders (black boxes), delivered to Kazakhstan, are being studied by specialists, said the ministry.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan confirmed the development, noting that the analysis of the flight recorders marks a critical step in the investigation process.

According to officials, the commission will now proceed to issue a final opinion based on the data extracted from the black boxes. This will provide key insights into the causes of the incident, which claimed multiple lives and raised safety concerns.

Spokesperson for the Kazakh Transport Ministry :

"Based on the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Annex 13, the Kazakh Transport Ministry’s commission investigating the aircraft incident will publish a preliminary report summarizing the established facts and providing information about the course of the investigation once all facts and materials are carefully assessed," the official said.

In conjunction with Azerbaijan authorities and investigators from Kazakhstan and Russia, Brazil's air force said its investigators helped to analyze data from the plane's black box and other tools. The investigators are working on recordings, cockpit voice and flight data recorders from the plane.

The crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer ERJ-190AR (4K-AZ65), which occurred on December 25, continues to be a high-priority investigation for Kazakh authorities, with support from international experts. The accident involved an AZAL passenger plane on the Baku-Grozny route.

On December 30, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) called for a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the tragic crash of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 on 25 December 2024.

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane which was flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Mangistau region, on December 25. The passenger flight was unable to land in Grozny due to heavy fog, first, it was redirected to Makhachkala, and then to Aktau.

The plane was carrying 67 people including 5 crew members. As per an initial report, 32 occupants survived, however the latest report confirms that 38 people died and 29 survived as a result of the tragedy. Among the victims were six nationals of Kazakhstan.

Additionally, in a latest update, the discharge of two of the injured passengers marks a hopeful turn as recovery efforts continue. The remaining injured individuals are making progress under the care of medical professionals, adding to the cautious optimism surrounding the aftermath of the crash.

Early investigations found that the plane's crash was caused by "physical and external interference." Pending definitive evidence, some reports and theories suggested that the aircraft could have been struck by Moscow's Pantsir-S air defense system mid-flight and that electronic warfare systems paralyzed the aircraft's communications.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that he blames the incident on the Russian Federation and that "we want justice, we want punishment for those to blame, we want full transparency and humane behavior."

Russia has also broken its silence on the ongoing investigation into the data from the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft's black box after the flight crashed on December 25 on its way to Grozny.

During a press conference on January 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that decoding the black boxes does not confirm "some preliminary conclusions stated in the media" but did not specify which conclusions, according to the Russian state media outlet Tass.
