Ural Airlines started dismantling the A320 plane that landed in a wheat field near Novosibirsk last September.

Ural Airlines Engineering and technical staff have started dismantling the Airbus A320 aircraft (RA-73805) that landed in a field near Novosibirsk one year ago, as reported by the carrier .

In the beginning, after the aircraft made an emergency landing on a wheat field, the Russian carrier planned and invested too much to remove the plane by taking-off from the field itself, but when they realized it's not feasible, they abandoned the idea.

The aircraft parts dismantling work is aimed to be completed by December this year. The parts that are airworthy have been tested, the airline claims. After dismantling, they will be checked again and can be used in the future to repair the aircraft fleet. The damaged parts of the plane will be repaired or scrapped.

The Emergency Landing Background

On the morning of September 12, 2023, the Airbus A320-214 of Ural Airlines, while performing scheduled flight U6-1383 from Sochi to Omsk, at around 04:40 while landing at Omsk-Tsentralny Airport, interrupted the approach due to the failure of the "green" hydraulic system.

The aircraft cockpit then decided to head to nearby Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport (600 km), but due to a lack of fuel to continue the flight, they decided to land outside the airfield.

At around 05:44, the plane made an emergency landing in a wheat field near the village of Kamenka, 185 kilometers from Tolmachevo Airport.

There were 161 passengers and six crew members on board on that flight, no one was hurt. All passengers evacuated the plane on their own, later the airline and the insurance company paid them 100,000 rubles each.

Russian Agency Rosaviatsia conducted two investigations, after  which experts decided that the landing occurred due to crew errors, which led to a lack of fuel when the plane was diverted to an alternate airfield.

The agency recommended dismissing two top managers of Ural Airlines - flight director Sergei Glazkov and quality director Alexei Fomin. The airline's press service did not report anything about the fate of the top managers.

As per sources, Captain of the aircraft Sergei Belov resigned from the airline on April 15 this year. The first officer Eduard Semenov was not allowed to fly for a long time, but at the end of July 2024, it became known that he was being retrained so that the pilot could return to flying.
