An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 plane with registration N885NN, caught fire on its Right engine at Denver International Airport, forcing dozens of passengers to stand on the wing while evacuating.

 

Right engine of the Boeing 737-800 caught fire on the evening of March 13 while operating flight AA1006. The plane was en route to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport from Colorado Springs with 172 passengers and six crew members on board.

 
 

The flight was diverted to Denver after the crew reported “engine vibration,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The engine reportedly caught fire "after landing and while taxiing to the gate."

 
 

Footage from the scene showed passengers exiting the plane in heavy smoke and standing on the wing. Twelve people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

 

Many escaped via wing safely but American Airlines Flight 1006 Passengers term the escape as ‘Terrifying’ and ‘Horrific’ from the Burning aircraft, flames of which started from the Right engine: “There were flames, and the windows began to bubble and melt,” said one of the passenger.

 

Passenger said, this will be an experience she never forgets: “Seeing the flames from the window and the window kind of melting and all the smoke and people screaming and everyone just trying to get off the plane.”

 
 

American Airlines said,

"The 172 customers and six crew members deplaned and are being relocated to the terminal. We thank our crew members, DEN team and first responders for their quick and decisive action with the safety of everyone on board and on the ground as the priority."

 

On February 17, a Delta Air Lines subsidiary, Endeavor Air CRJ900, ended up upside-down while landing at Toronto's Pearson Airport due to high winds following a snow storm. Eighteen people were injured in that event that resulted a hull loss.

 

The plane was operating flight 4819 from Minneapolis and had 76 passengers and four crew members on board. Canadian authorities said they would investigate the cause of the crash.
