  • An IBC Airways plane crashed this Friday afternoon during its landing at Antoine Simon International Airport in Les Cayes.
  • The aircraft, carrying approximately ten people, experienced braking difficulties. The runway was covered in water due to the heavy rains.
  • The rain significantly reduced the runway's grip, complicating the aircraft's braking maneuver.

  • No injuries were reported, passengers are in shock following the incident, which could have ended in disaster.

An IBC Airways Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft was involved in a Runway excursion incident this Friday afternoon during its landing at Antoine-Simon Airport. The aircraft, carrying approximately ten people, encountered difficulties braking on the runway, which was visibly slippery due to heavy rains in the city.

According to the reports, the aircraft registered as N271BC, was unable to come to a normal stop and continued its landing roll until it struck the safety barrier at the end of the runway 08. Its nose came to rest near the road, causing concern among local residents and witnesses.

  • The plane crossed the airport boundaries by hitting the security fence, before coming to rest on National Route #7.
  • The impact caused material damage, including the loss of a wheel on the aircraft.

Despite the potential severity of the incident, no injuries were reported. This event has reignited concerns about landing conditions during periods of rain and the state of airport infrastructure, while an investigation is expected to shed light on the exact circumstances of the incident.

According to the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC), the plane from Miami, which was scheduled to land on runway 8 at 2:35 p.m. (local time), performed a first go-around at 2:36 p.m. During a second landing attempt, at 2:40 p.m., the aircraft veered off the runway, appearing to have difficulty braking, and came to a stop on the Northeast shoulder.

Technical teams from OFNAC and the National Airport Authority (AAN) will be on site this Saturday, March 21, in coordination with a team from IBC, to conduct a technical assessment of the incident.
