From the operational return last December to the positioning of two Airbus A321neos: in just under two months Palermo becomes the 39th Wizz Air base in the world.
A new important step in the company's growth in Italy and which today allows Wizz Air to reach a market share of 10.4% and become the second airline in the country by market share.
The investment generates direct benefits for the economy contributing to the creation of 80 new opportunities direct employment and 700 new job figures in the supply chain.
The announcement was made in the press conference in the presence of the mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla, the the airline's chief commercial officer, Ian Malin, and the CEO of Gesap, the management company of the Palermo airport, Gianfranco Battisti.

Starting from 1 August 2026, Falcone Borsellino airport will host two Wizz Air aircraft of the latest generation, allowing the company to permanently strengthen its operations at the airport and significantly expand the offer of connections. The airline will expand its network from the Sicilian city to operate ten routes to seven countries.
Wizz Air will activate the connection Palermo-Milan Malpensa with a twice-daily service (14 weekly frequencies), flanked by Palermo-Bologna with 11 weekly flights and from Palermo-Venice with 10 weekly flights.
For the carrier, the domestic offer is completed by the Palermo-Turin route, operated by with a daily frequency, starting from 4 May 2026.
From 1 August 2026, the new Palermo-Tel Aviv connection with 3 flights per week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday), while from 2 August 2026 the green light to the Palermo-Sharm el-Sheikh route with 4 weekly frequencies (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday).
Both new routes international brands are already on sale. These routes are in addition to to the recently announced destinations of Warsaw, Bratislava, Belgrade and Sofia forming the Wizz Air network at Palermo airport.

All Wizz Air flights are operated with Airbus A320, A321 and A320 neo and A321 neo planes. The company, listed on the London Stock Exchange, has a fleet of 252 aircraft. In 2025, it carried 63.4 million passengers.
