Unusual incident : Two passengers were arrested after caught in an intimate situation on a plane, time for an Aeronautical Code?

  • A couple was detained by authorities this Saturday after they tried to have sex in their seats on flight from Panama.
  • The incident occurred on a Copa Airlines flight that landed at Rosario International Airport in the early hours of the morning.
  • The cabin chief reported the incident to the airline supervisor and expressed her intention to initiate criminal proceedings for indecent exposure.
  • The Aeronautical Code, regulated by the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), does not contain a specific provision regarding sexual acts inside an aircraft.
  • However, such conduct violates the rules governing passenger behavior and can hinder the captain's ability to maintain order and safety during the flight.

An unusual incident came to light in recent hours in the province of Santa Fe, after two passengers traveling on an international flight were accused of having tried to have sex on board the aircraft.

Allegedly, the individuals involved, a 55-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, were found half-naked in the seats of row F of flight CM 836, coming from the Panamanian capital, when they were reported by other passengers.

In response to the complaints, the aircraft's cabin chief informed the supervisor that she wished to initiate criminal proceedings "for indecent exposure" against the two passengers.

According to the current protocol, communication was established with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rosario, which indicated that the accused should be handed over to the police station of the jurisdiction of the international airport located in the Fisherton neighborhood, once they landed, to carry out the necessary procedures, after extracting sets of chips and photos.

The Aeronautical Code of the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) does not have a specific rule for individuals attempting to engage in sexual activity on an aircraft. However, this violates passenger conduct regulations and hinders the captain's ability to maintain order and safety on board.

The captain has the authority to intervene in any situation that jeopardizes safety, discipline, or the normal course of operations. In cases of indecent exposure, the incident may result in administrative or criminal penalties, outside the scope of the Aeronautical Code.

Two journalists from Rosario, Analía Bocassi and Juan Junco, were on the flight and shared updates on their social media accounts.

After landing, Airport Security Police personnel intervened in the operation and notified the Santa Fe Public Prosecutor's Office. The passengers were taken to a police station for identification and processing.

This authority is empowered to take action against individuals who disrupt safety, discipline, or the normal course of flight . In cases of indecent exposure, the situation may lead to administrative or criminal charges outside the scope of the Aeronautical Code.

ANAC's operational safety regulations regarding conduct that disrupts normal flight conditions may also apply. At the same time, the airline can sanction them or ban them from traveling with them in the future.

Last year, a similar incident occurred on an EasyJet flight from London to Luton to Alicante. A British couple in their 30s got drunk and shouted to the passengers that they were going to participate in the "high mile club ," an expression used in English to refer to people having sex during a flight.

Then, they locked themselves in the bathroom and strange noises began to be heard . The passengers became uneasy and asked the crew to intervene. It was then revealed that the couple had already caused problems before boarding the plane, as they had consumed an excessive amount of alcohol .

A flight attendant approached the restroom and asked them to come out, but received no response. The noises continued, and that's when the Spanish authorities at Alicante Airport were notified.

Two years earlier, another incident occurred on the same airline when a couple locked themselves in a bathroom on a flight from Luton to Ibiza to have sex . However, on that occasion, they were discovered by a crew member who opened the door. They were arrested when they disembarked the plane.
