On 30 September 2023, when Alaska Airlines conducted a flight using an Airbus A321neo aircraft , that operated flight AS1126 from Seattle (WA) to Los Angeles (CA), it was the last Airbus flight by the SeaTac based carrier, making a Pro Boeing statement.
As an established an all-Boeing operator, Alaska Airlines inherited an Airbus-fleet after it merged with Virgin America in the year 2018. The carrier operated 53 Airbus A320s, and ten A321neos in the merged entity.
During the battering of Covid-19 pandemic, the carrier had made it clear that it's going to retire all Airbus aircraft. Threshold was 2023,that the Airbus fleet would be removed. Though there was a thin chance to reinforce the Airbus fleet with new orders , carrier decided against it and to stick with all Boeing.
The A321-253N (neo) aircraft (N921VA) was barely 6.5 years old to be retired , though it's under a lease agreement with erstwhile GECAS, and now AerCap, the company that acquired GECAS in November 2021.
With the retirement of its last Airbus, Alaska Airlines' base fleet will revolve around the narrow body Boeing planes , that's 222 Boeing B737s, including fourteen B737-700s, 61 B737-800s, twelve B737-900s, 79 B737-900ERs, and 56 B737-9s.
