Mexican Aeromar Clipped Its Wings , Future Of 700 Employees In Dark , Seen Picketing !

Mexican airline Aeromar, a partner of Air Canada and Aeroplan, has announced Wednesday its decision to end its operations permanently February 15 .

The regional carrier operated 21 routes in Mexico and flew to McAllen and Laredo in Texas and Havana, Cuba. It specialized in routes between Mexico City and beach resorts.

Aeromar’s announcement is going to shake the domestic flying as it leaves Mexico with only three main domestic carriers — Aeromexico and the low-cost airlines Volaris and Viva Aerobus.

The airline did not say what options would be available to travellers who already purchased fares. It's also unclear what will happen to the company’s nearly 700 employees.

However , Grupo Aeromexico has offered an exclusive protection policy for passengers who have a reservation with defunct  Aeromar for the cities of Colima, Tepic, Ciudad Victoria, Piedras Negras, McAllen and Ixtepec.

In a press release , Aeromar attributed the shuttering of its operations to significant financial losses and the impossibility of finding new investors.

“We appreciate the solidarity of our colleagues at Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris who are providing support to travellers who have reservations in progress with us. It's a sign of the collaboration that sets the union apart to keep airline users connected.”

Amid various other reasons of shut down owing to failure from Pandemic recovery, the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) has reported that Aeromar owes to date 522 million 128 thousand 169 pesos, an amount that does not include interest. This also led to the suspension of Fuel and Airport Services.

Now, Workers Aeromar, Pilots of ASPA from Mexico and flight attendants from ASSA from Mexico are Picketing in Terminal 2 of Mexico City International Airport (AICM) demanding salaries and dues, after the stoppage of operations of Aeromar on February 15.

Though other carriers are offering flights , Passengers who booked with Aeromar are equally suffering , as no proper communication or assistance was provided to them , many complain of Refund issues of canceled flights , after the carrier stopped flying.

Earlier , In June 2022, following the announcement of the interline partnership with Air Canada , Aeroplan had added Aeromar to its network of airline partners.

Aeroplan then presented Aeromar as "Mexico's main regional airline," touting its "ATR 600 series turboprops are among the most modern in Mexico and serve more than 25 destinations."
