Malaysia Airlines records a new Landmark as it receives 200th Boeing Aircraft.

  • Malaysia Airlines received a new Boeing 737-8 aircraft at the KL International Airport (KLIA), fourth of the model this year.
  • The aircraft landed safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 1.30pm yesterday, after a 19-hour, 44-minute flight from the Boeing Delivery Centre in Seattle, USA.
  • Malaysia Airlines’ fleet history has previously been marked by the operation of iconic wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and B777.
  • To date, MAG has received 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft from the brand's total order of 55 single-aisle (narrowbody) aircraft.
  • The remaining order includes 43 Boeing 737-8s and 12 Boeing 737-10s with a delivery schedule expected to continue in stages until 2030.

Malaysia Airlines received a new Boeing 737-8 aircraft at the KL International Airport (KLIA), completing the delivery of the national carrier's 200th Boeing aircraft since 1972.

The carrier welcomes the arrival of its fourth Boeing 737-8 aircraft this year, said Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) President and Group Chief Executive Officer Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar.

He said the delivery was significant as it also marked the 200th Boeing aircraft to join Malaysia Airlines’ fleet since 1972.

“More than just an addition to our fleet, this historic achievement reflects a long history of operations that has supported capacity growth and the evolution of our fleet over the decades as we continue our mission to connect Malaysia to the world.

“The introduction of this new generation aircraft will further strengthen our ability to support future growth opportunities and meet the evolving needs of the market, while continuing to provide a more modern and comfortable travel experience to our customers,” he said.

MAG said the history of Malaysia Airlines’ fleet reflects a period of large-scale and ambitious expansion. This includes the operation of wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and Boeing 777, which have highlighted the airline’s long-haul capabilities and global connectivity throughout key phases of its growth.

Together with the evolution of the Boeing 737 family, these aircraft reflect how the airline has continually adapted, modernised and expanded its reach over the years.

The newest aircraft, bearing the registration number 9M-MVR, departed from the Boeing Delivery Center in Seattle, USA on May 21, 2026 at 2pm local time and made refueling stops in Honolulu and Guam before continuing its journey to Malaysia.

Operated as flight MH5045, the aircraft landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today at 1:30pm after a total flight duration of 19 hours 44 minutes.

“This latest addition reflects MAG’s continued focus on modernizing its aircraft network in line with efforts to strengthen network connectivity, increase efficiency and improve the travel experience across its network.

“The Boeing 737-8 plays a key role in supporting the group’s narrow-body operations with higher fuel efficiency, better reliability and enhanced passenger comfort,” the group said.

To date, MAG has taken delivery of 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft from a total order of 55 Boeing narrow-body aircraft comprising 43 Boeing 737-8s and 12 Boeing 737-10s with deliveries scheduled to continue until 2030.

The landmark flight was conducted by Captain Arian Syazwara B. Adenan, Captain Mohd Aidilputra Abd Razak and First Senior Officer, Ahmad Asnawi Ahmad Rahman.
