By placing orders with both the Aircraft makers, flydubai chose to maintain a balance of its new aircraft order during the Dubai Airshow 2025.

While flydubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing Commercial Aircraft for the purchase of 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft worth $13 billion (AED 47.75 billion), it also placed an order with Airbus for 150 A321neo aircraft making the airline a new Airbus customer.

The Boeing aircraft agreement was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Boeing Commercial Aircraft CEO and CEO Stephanie Pope, in the presence of flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith at the Dubai Airshow 2025.

"We are delighted to announce a new aircraft order with Boeing, and looking ahead, proactive fleet planning is essential to ensure we can meet the growing demand for travel, which we are confident will continue to grow. Anticipating future needs is critical to the success of any airline, and today's announcement reflects our commitment to this principle."

"Dubai's environment, which is characterized by world-class infrastructure, advanced legislation, open air policies, and its ability to attract global talent, are all factors that enable flydubai to expand and grow. We are proud to sign another order for the 737 MAX with Boeing, a trusted partner who has played a key role in expanding our network to its current size."

"Reliable aircraft availability and delivery schedule are vital to the continued growth of our industry, and this agreement ensures that we remain well-positioned for future growth by adding more aircraft to our fleet and replacing existing aircraft."

"I would like to thank our team for their dedication and hard work, and their efforts, coupled with Dubai's ambitious vision for the coming years, reflect our optimism for the future, including playing a key role in Dubai Al Maktoum Airport's expansion plans."

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Aircraft, said:

"flydubai is one of the world's first 737 MAX operators, and its plan to sign the current order, its fifth order to date, reflects the market-leading value and versatility of the 737 MAX."

For the Airbus order, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, signed the MoU agreement with Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, at the signing ceremony which was attended by Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, on the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of flydubai, said:

“We are pleased to announce a landmark agreement for 150 A321neo aircraft, representing another important milestone in flydubai’s journey. This new agreement is not only about adding aircraft. It supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33,”

“This strategic addition diversifies our narrow-body fleet and strengthens our long-term expansion plans. This will enable flydubai to play a key role in the success of Dubai World Central’s expansion plans, an airport we aim to become the largest airport in the world.”

“The A321neos will support the next phase of our network development and enable us to meet rising demand across our markets. We look forward to establishing a strong and enduring partnership between flydubai and Airbus.”

Though the Airbus A321Neo order could be seen as a shift from the "all Boeing fleet", at present flydubai operates a fleet of 96 Boeing 737 aircraft, including 27 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, 66 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and three Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.

These announcements were made as Dubai International Airport, among the world’s busiest for international travel, announced it had 70.1 million passengers already this year and is on track to break its own records again.
