CVR memory module read out done !

The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) from a crashed Sriwijaya Air jet has been downloaded successfully and includes the last minutes of the flight that ended with fatal crash of 62 people onboard, an official at Indonesia's air accident investigator said Today.

"NTSC managed to download all 4 channels from CVR, but channel 4 on CVR was disrupted. However, based on the existing records, it has added important data for the investigation which results will be presented in the final report."

The contents of the recording from the 26-year old Boeing Co 737-500 that crashed shortly after take-off on Jan. 9 cannot be disclosed publicly at this stage of the probe, Indonesia National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) investigator Nurcahyo Utomo said.

"Good,  We have downloaded it,  It contains four channels of audio, including recordings of the captain and first officer" , Nurcahyo said.

"Each  has the last two hours , including the record of the flight that crashed,"  he added .

What's Next  ?

Now, the available channels will  be synchronised with each other as well as radio communications and the flight data recorder (FDR) data for analysis to help determine the clue to the crash.

The Recovery Of CVR memory module Last month !

On Mar 31st 2021 the memory module of the cockpit voice recorder was found and recovered, after pumping mud and sand from the sea bed, reported by Indonesia's Transport Minister and confirmed by the KNKT.

Earlier, In the Month of february, KNKT had released a preliminary report , that did not have much information but was indicating that the aircraft had an imbalance in engine thrust (assymetry) that eventually led it into a sharp roll and then a final dive into the sea.

The report included information from the FDR but they were eagerly waiting for the CVR memory module to establish the link and circumstances of the fatal accident.

What are these CVR channels ? what are they allocated for ?

  • Channel 1 — Co-pilot headphones and live boom microphone.

  • Channel 2 — Pilot headphones and live boom microphone.

  • Channel 3 — Area microphone.

  • Channel 4 — Time reference plus the third and fourth crew members’ headphone and live microphone, if applicable.
