  • Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, launched operations for its first Embraer E190-E2.
  • The Embraer aircraft is operating flight to Krabi and Hat Yai today (May 7).
  • Part of the airline’s new Embraer line of jets, the aircraft represents one of the nine aircrafts that are being delivered from now till the end of 2025.

Singapore Airlines' low-cost subsidiary carrier Scoot began operations with its newest aircraft, the Embraer E190-E2 registered as 9V-THA, operating flights to Krabi and Hat Yai commencing on Tuesday (May 7).

Scoot celebrated the Launch event at T1, Changi Airport (SIN) in the presence of Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance along with Scoot’s chief executive Leslie Thng.

Part of Embraer’s newest family of regional jets, Scoot has signed an agreement to acquire a total of nine aircraft by the end 2025.

Singapore's Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat at the launch event held at Changi Airport Terminal 1, said :

“Jet's smaller passenger capacity makes them ideal for opening new routes to smaller but growing markets within the region, as well as enabling additional flights on existing routes. This will help enhance the Singapore air hub’s network connectivity in South-east Asia.”

He added that the new jets were an “important milestone” in Changi Airport’s continued growth, as expanding Singapore’s commercial aviation network in South-east Asia would allow it to meet rapidly growing demand.

Last month, named ‘Explorer 3.0’, a special handover ceremony was attended by the senior executives from Azorra, Scoot, and Embraer at Embraer’s facility in Brazil, in celebration of the third and newest fleet addition to the Scoot family, which was the delivery of the first E190-E2, also marking a first timer for a Singapore carrier, introducing an aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer.

Scoot’s chief executive Leslie Thng told that the new aircraft would allow the airline to expand to new destinations and build up its frequency with existing ones.

“We are confident that with this new-generation aircraft, we will continue to strengthen our presence in the region, enhance our connectivity to non-metro destinations and provide our customers with even more memorable travel experiences,” says Leslie Thng, at the launch event held at Changi Airport Terminal 1.

The E190-E2 will begin flights to Miri on May 20th and Kuantan on June 3rd this year. It will commence flights to Koh Samui on May 13 and Sibu on Jun 5 – both are new destinations for Scoot.

“This fleet is a testament to the Singapore Airlines Group’s foresight in planning for growth and future expansion, even as we emerged from the depths of the pandemic,” adds transport minister Chee Hong Tat.

Chee Hong also noted that this expansion of Singapore’s aviation network into the region will allow it to better serve and meet rapidly growing demand in the South-east Asian market.

The second E190-E2 aircraft has since arrived in Singapore and is in the process of preparations for operations. The remaining seven planes of the new Embraer fleet are also expected to be delivered by the end of 2025.
