A Lockheed C-130 Hercules of the Ethiopian Air Force has been completely damaged in an accident near Gijet, Ethiopia.
Some sources say that, the aircraft was shut down by the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) during the armed conflict known as the Tigray War that started in November 2020 between Ethiopia and the Tigray Region.
Aircraft was descending when it was shot down, so it is possible that it was shot down by MANPADS. The loss of this aircraft is rather painful for the Ethiopian Air Force, which only had single digit cargo planes.
Now confirmed that a C-130 carrying troops and ammunition was shot down by the TDF in the vicinity of Gijet this morning. Images taken from the crash site show that the aircraft was totally destroyed. There are no survivors.
