  • Mesa officials say five people have lost life after the plane crashed near Falcon Field on Tuesday afternoon in Mesa.

Five lives feared to have been lost at Mesa, a Phoenix suburb, Arizona after a Honda HA-420 aircraft (N57HP) crashed on takeoff at approximately 1640 this afternoon.

The aircraft, while departing Runway 22L at Falcon Field Airport (Mesa, AZ, USA), initiated a high-speed rejected take-off (RTO), but could not stop on the Runway, departed the airport perimeter through a fence onto a roadway hitting a vehicle.

The jet was scheduled to land in Provo, Utah this evening. Most of the fuselage has been destroyed by the post-crash fire.

The ADS-B data indicates that the aircraft reached a max ground speed of 133 kts before the RTO, just prior to D3/D4.

Police say the crash happened near Greenfield and McKellips roads. Aerial footage showed the Honda jet on fire and at least one damaged vehicle that was involved.

Greenfield Road is closed northbound at Brown and southbound at McDowell Road. McKellips Road is closed eastbound at Val Vista and westbound at Higley Road. Police said that the entire area would be closed down for several hours.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board have initiated the investigation for the cause of the crash.
