On Sunday 15 January , Nepal might not have imagined that they are going to witness the worst aviation accident in three decades. The 2007 built 72-seater Yeti airlines ATR72 aircraft (9N-ANC) crashed near the newly Inaugurated Pokhara International Airport (between old domestic AP and Intl. AP) in Nepal.
All the efforts hopes went unanswered , when lives from the accident could not be rescued as half of the the aircraft was completely burnt and other half was found destroyed.
- So far, 68 fatalities have been confirmed. There is no information about any survivor so far.
- Though search is continuing, Black Boxes (CVR and FDR) have not been recovered yet.
- Yeti Airlines flight that crashed in Pokhara was around 20 seconds away from landing at the New Pokhara International Airport Inaugurated on 1st January 2023.
- Yeti Airlines Flight 691 crash in Pokhara is the worst air crash in three decades in Nepal.
- Abnormal altitude readings of 9N-ANC from the ADSB data for past 7 days , which shows altitude reaching up to 35,000ft or even 100,000ft, which is not normal for a Turboprop aircraft like ATR72. Optimum ceiling height of AT72 aircraft is 25,000ft.
- The co-pilot aboard the aircraft was one landing away from achieving her goal of becoming a captain.
- Compromising safety record , 13 accidents in 24 years , 6 fatal with 97 casualties for Yeti Airlines.
- Yeti Airlines has canceled all the scheduled flights for 16 January 23.
Aircraft manufacturer ATR released a Statement saying,
"ATR has been informed that an accident occurred in Nepal involving an ATR 72-500. Our first thoughts are with all the individuals affected by this. The ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation and the customer."
