Riyadh Air's main hub and operations will be based in Riyadh, and as a digitally-native, full-service carrier, Riyadh Air will pioneer new technologies and innovations whilst offering guests an authentic and warm Saudi hospitality style.

With its operations scheduled for early 2025, Riyadh Air has been established to support both Saudi Arabia's National Aviation Strategy and the wider National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aspires to fulfil the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals.

In terms of economic impact, in the US, the deal is expected to support nearly 100,000 direct and indirect jobs and more than 300 suppliers from across 38 states, including 145 US small businesses, while in Saudi Arabia, the new airline is expected to add $20 billion to non-oil GDP growth and create more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, said:

"We are delighted to announce that we have obtained “RX” as our IATA code, which will be on every touchpoint that our guests see as they take flight with us. On 14 June 2023 , Riyadh Air, launched by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), had announced an order of up to 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes in a multi-billion dollar deal.

The unprecedented order for a new carrier — 39 confirmed aircraft with an option to acquire 33 additional wide-body 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes — is being considered as a strong signal of intent for Saudi Arabia to become a global aviation hub.

IATA codes are considered an integral part of the travel industry and the commercial organisation of air transportation of passengers and cargo. They are essential for the identification of an airline, international bookings and in the work of ground service teams at airports.

In another remarkable acceptance of the upcoming carrier , the airline’s careers web page has received job applications from over 300,000 applicants across 182 countries around the world, since its launch.

The establishment of Riyadh Air is in line with PIF’s mandate to unlock the capabilities of key sectors locally to drive the diversification of Saudi Arabia’s economy.

The new King Salman International Airport and Riyadh Air are among the latest investments of PIF in the aviation sector, which aim to raise the financial sustainability of the aviation sector and enhance its global competitiveness in order to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
