  • The decision underscores Qatar Airways Group's observance of the national mourning period, resulting in its complete withdrawal from the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow.

Qatar Airways has cancelled its planned participation in the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 following the passing of His Highness The Father Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

On 9 July 2026, Qatar Airways announced that it would take part in the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, one of the aviation industry’s most prominent global events. The airline had planned to showcase its world-class travel experience, products, and services to an international audience of aviation professionals, industry leaders, and media representatives.

However, following the passing of H.H. the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on 12 July 2026, Qatar Airways Group announced the cancellation of its participation in the event in accordance with the national mourning period observed in Qatar.

The airline also cancelled all related media engagements that had been scheduled alongside its presence at the airshow.

Before announcing the cancellation, Qatar Airways had planned to display a Boeing 777-300ER adorned in a special 2026 FIFA World Cup livery, alongside a Qatar Executive Gulfstream G700 business jet featuring Starlink connectivity.

In a statement issued to ILoveQatar.net (ILQ), Qatar Airways Group said:

“Following the passing of His Highness The Father Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and in observance of the period of national mourning in Qatar, Qatar Airways Group has cancelled its participation in the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, including all associated media engagements.”

The Farnborough International Airshow is regarded as a key platform for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, suppliers, and aviation stakeholders to announce major developments, showcase new technologies, and strengthen industry partnerships. Qatar Airways’ withdrawal means the airline will no longer participate in the 2026 edition of the event.

The cancellation reflects Qatar Airways Group’s observance of the national mourning period following the loss of the former Emir, who played a significant role in Qatar’s modern development and the growth of the country’s aviation sector.
