Worldwide Focus shifted to B737Max aircrafts , that had just recovered from a two years grounding due to the twin crashes killing 346 people.

Now, 100 plus Boeing 737 Max aircrafts, those were delivered recently, stay on tarmacs by the unresoved electrical issue in some sub-systems, that prompted Boeing to ground certain MSNs ( Manufacturer's Serial Numbers).

The Technical Issue :

Though details are not available from Boeing, it is suspected that, the problem is related  to a change in material coating once production of the 737 MAX resumed last year.

Airlines woes !

Airlines across the world are eagerly waiting for a solution to this and some frustration is brewing among them concerning the repair plans and undue grounding that might have some effect on Summer travel plans.

32 of Southwest Airlines' Max Airplanes are grounded out of a fleet 64 Max jets. Chief Operating Officer Mike Van de Ven expects, once a repair is approved, the modification work will take two to three days for each aircraft , i.e. about three weeks to fix the grounded ones.

He says,

“It’s frustrating to have to go through that process again,” referring to the B737Max Modification work done involving the MCAS system, prior to ungrounding of the jet.

American Airlines President Robert Isom said, he hopes repairs can be done “in a matter of weeks and not longer.”

Other Critics !

While  Airlines have issues about grounding , lawyer representing Ethiopian Airlines Max crash victims remain critical about the new development.

“This grounding calls into question the safety of the Max and why Boeing’s claims of a ‘changed culture’ continue to ring hollow,” said Steven Marks, one of the lawyers representing relatives of passengers who were on board an Ethiopian Airlines Max that crashed in March 2019. “We don’t know what other issues exist.”

What does FAA say ?

The Federal Aviation Administration said that it has notified other aviation regulators and airlines that it is working with Boeing “to fully identify and address” a problem with electrical grounding in a backup power-control unit.

A spokesman for the FAA said additional testing “showed the issue could involve additional systems.”

Boeing's spokesperson says that, the company agrees with the FAA’s notice to other regulators and is working with the FAA and airlines to address the issue.

Grounded  Aircrafts  Worldwide !

As per FAA , the electrical issue affects 106 Max aircrafts all over the world, that includes 71 jets of  United States registry.

17 Max aircrafts of United Airlines are grounded while American Airlines saw 18 of its Boeing B737Max Airplnes grounded.
