China Moving Away from Boeing ? Airbus bags one of the biggest orders from the Country amounting 292 Aircraft !

Boeing Loosing it's Turf in China to Airbus !

Term it as the "Rivalry between the U.S.A. and China" , or Chinese government's (CAAC) reluctance to accept "B737Max flying in the country Liberally" or current accident of China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft , that plummeted from cruising altitude in a near-vertical descent to crash triggering a Public uproar about Boeing737 planes , signs are clear - Boeing is in the weakest of times in China !

As China's home grown Comac C919 is yet to Prove it's market capture abilities , Chinese carriers have looked into the narrow body options in the European Plane maker , and  Airbus is happy to take a lead in the Narrow body segment with open arms offering the A320Neo aircraft.

As announced today , Four Chinese carriers have signed agreements to acquire a total of 292 aircraft between 2024 to 2027 , which definitely matches the growth projection for the said segment .

The  Airbus  A320Neo Family Order by Chinese carriers in Brief  !

- China Eastern : 100 A320Neo ($12.8BN) - To be delivered between 2024 - 2027.

- China Southern : 96 A320Neo ($12.2BN) - To be delivered before 2027.

- Air China + Shenzhen Airlines : 96 A320Neo family ($12.2BN) - To be delivered before 2027.

On the significant amount of order , Airbus says ,

Airbus confirms the signature of orders with Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Shenzhen Airlines for a total of 292 A320 Family aircraft, demonstrating the positive recovery momentum and prosperous outlook for the Chinese aviation market. Once the relevant criteria are met, these orders will enter the backlog.

However , Boeing has also captured some Airbus loyals earlier in the year , like all-Airbus Allegiant Air's order for 50 Max aircraft with options for 50 more is a rare move for a budget carrier that will spend in fleet induction in terms of additional training for pilots, mechanics, and other staff to learn the aircraft.

Apart from this , Canada's Flair Airlines , and India's Akasa Air have chosen the Max planes to start their growth story. To add to the story , Qatar Airways has gone to Boeing to get some B737Max aircraft due to a rare legal dispute with Airbus.

But , Boeing will agree to this , it has not been able to bring back it's existing customers to opt for B737Max , even airlines with established Boeing fleets !

While Qantas and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have opted for Airbus aircraft including the A320neo and A220 families of aircraft to expand their fleet, Indian Jet Airways relaunch may see an Airbus fleet , though it has been a Boeing Loyalist , atleast for it's narrow body segment in the past.

“These new orders demonstrate the strong confidence in Airbus from our customers. It is also a solid endorsement from our airline customers in China of the performance, quality, fuel efficiency and sustainability of the world's leading family of single aisle aircraft.” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International.

“We commend the excellent work by George Xu and the entire Airbus China team as well as our customers’ teams for having brought to conclusion these long and extensive discussions that have taken place throughout the difficult COVID pandemic.”

Airbus claims it's market share by saying that it has more that 2000 airbus aircraft in China , and it's adding more capacity to that , it says ,

By the end of May 2022, the in-service Airbus fleet with Chinese operators totalled over 2,070 aircraft.

To re-capture the narrow body segment market , Boeing has to go back to the board room , do some home work , invest in some additional marketing on MAX , innovations to make MAX a friendly Aircraft among travelers , strategies , offer some services and trainings as 'Free of Cost' , bring back the established customers , if ever it wish to compete Airbus in China or anywhere else !
