Vietnam's Bamboo Airways will suspend its charter service between Hanoi and Lijiang, China, effective August 1, as the carrier continues to streamline operations during its ongoing restructuring program.
The airline confirmed the decision in a letter sent to its partners on July 30, stating that adjustments to its operating schedule made it impossible to continue the charter service.
According to the letter, signed by CEO Truong Phuong Thanh, Bamboo Airways had worked with relevant stakeholders and evaluated multiple options to maintain the route. However, after reviewing the available alternatives, the airline concluded that it had "no other choice" but to discontinue the flights.
The Hanoi–Lijiang service had been operated as a charter route connecting Vietnam's capital with the popular tourist destination in China's Yunnan Province.
Bamboo Airways said the suspension follows a broader revision of its flight operations as it continues implementing measures aimed at improving financial performance and optimizing its network.
The carrier apologized to its partners for the disruption and advised passengers holding confirmed bookings on the affected charter flights to contact their ticket agents for rebooking assistance or further support.
Bamboo Airways is a Vietnamese full-service airline headquartered in Hanoi. Established in 2017 by the FLC Group, it launched commercial operations in January 2019 with the goal of connecting underserved domestic destinations while expanding internationally.
However, the suspension is the latest step in Bamboo Airways' restructuring efforts, which began after the airline faced financial challenges linked to its former parent company.
Prior to the restructuring, Bamboo Airways operated a fleet of 44 aircraft, including Airbus A319, A320, A321, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, serving an extensive domestic and international network.
Since then, the airline has significantly reduced its fleet size and network while focusing on restoring profitability and stabilizing operations.
Although the Hanoi–Lijiang charter service is ending, Bamboo Airways continues to adjust its route network as part of its long-term recovery strategy, with the airline seeking to strengthen its core operations while evaluating future growth opportunities.
