With a fascinating business model of all Business class travel , BermudAir is planning to provide short flights between Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast utilizing two Embraer 175s.
The upcoming carrier has received approval from the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) and has been granted its Air Operating Certificate (AOC).
Minister of Transport, Wayne Furbert, JP MP released his statement, saying,
Today, we gather here with immense excitement as we approach a significant milestone for Bermuda, the impending launch of the first-ever locally established Bermuda-based airline - BERMUDAIR.
I am delighted to announce that BERMUDAIR has received full authorization from the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) and has been granted its Air Operating Certificate (AOC). This achievement is a testament to the airline’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and complying with regulatory requirements. As a government, we take immense pride in witnessing the fulfilment of all necessary protocols and certifications, paving the way for BERMUDAIR to soar into the skies with confidence and pride.
The Planned Flights will initially operate from Bermuda to the following destinations:
Boston Logan International Airport.
Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.
Westchester County Airport (White Plains, N.Y.).
BermudAir plans to operate two former Flybe 30-seat Embraer E175 aircraft leased from Azorra starting in the late summer 2023. The planes have the registration codes VQ-BLU and BQ-BLW, and these are both roughly 10-year-old aircraft that used to operate for Flybe.
Typically the E175 can accommodate 88 passengers travelling economy but BermudAir’s two aircraft have been reconfigured to 30 seats each.
As per the minister , the carrier will be a pivotal step forward for expanding our island’s aviation sector and symbolizes the potential for growth, progress, and self-sufficiency for Bermuda.
The introduction of BERMUDAIR will undoubtedly significantly contribute to developing air services in Bermuda. As a Bermuda-based airline, BERMUDAIR will enhance connectivity, bolster economic growth, and promote travel to our beautiful island.
Moreover, BERMUDAIR’s operations will generate numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities, ranging from pilots, flight attendants, and ground staff to administrative, maintenance, and customer service roles. This will also fuel demand for ancillary services such as hotels, restaurants, and transportation, providing essential support to local businesses.
Adam Scott, the chief executive officer of BermudAir, has also confirmed that the company had been granted an air operating certificate from the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority — one of several hurdles that airlines have to overcome before getting airborne.
