The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $255,000 civil penalty against American Airlines for allegedly violating drug and alcohol regulations on 08 April, 2026.
The FAA alleges that between May 2019 and December 2023 American allowed 12 flight attendants who tested positive on drug and alcohol tests to resume performing safety-sensitive duties without completing all the required follow-up testing. The employees tested positive for substances including alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.
To be noted here, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had proposed a $304,272 civil penalty against Southwest Airlines for allegedly violating drug and alcohol testing regulations on 03 April, 2026.
The FAA alleged that Southwest failed to conduct all of the required follow-up drug or alcohol testing for 11 employees, including pilots, flight attendants, and aircraft mechanics. The employees had previously tested positive for alcohol or drugs including marijuana, cocaine and amphetamines.
On 03 April, 2026, the FAA proposed a $56,000 civil penalty against Spring City Jet, Inc. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for allegedly violating drug and alcohol testing regulations.
Federal Aviation Administration press release added further that the American Airlines has 30 days after receiving the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
