On 19th June, a 16 years old Southwest B737-700 aircraft was hit by a 9 years old Cargolux B747-8F in the act of taxiing at Chicago-O'Hare Intl Airport, USA.
Reportedly, the Southwest Airlines B737-700 (Regd. N218WN) and Cargolux B747-8F (Regd. LX-VCE) were involved in an avoidable ground incident, where the B747-8F right hand wingtip struck the left hand winglet of the B737 damaging both aircrafts in the act of collision.
On the incident day, Southwest Airlines was operating the flight WN2750 with Boeing 737-700 (N218WN) while Cargolux was doing the flight CV9796, with a Boeing 747-8F aircraft. Both the aircrafts have been grounded since pending damage assessment.
If events are to be noted, before the incident, the Southwest flight WN2750 had landed at Chicago-O'Hare Intl Airport at around 19:58 UTC and was waiting for the gate open up after taxiing along taxiway TT .
At around 20:23 UTC, the Cargolux Boeing 747-8F was taxiing from behind, on its way to the runway for departure ( flight CV9796) . In the process the RH wingtip of the Boeing 747-8F hit the LH winglet of the Boeing B737NG.
