They were grounded globally in March 2019 after 2 crashes in 5 months
Many countries now allow Max to fly again post modifications
Earlier on Apr 20th, DGCA had allowed B737 Max to fly over Indian airspace; & allowed lessors to take back B737 Max planes outside India.
Last year and early this year, many of the Civil Aviation regulators across the globe incuding both the US aviation regulator - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European regulator - European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), have approved the return to service of the aircraft with extensive fixes.
Modifications Required :
► Software enhancements to the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS).
► Other software updates not related to the flight control system.
► A wire separation modification.
► A thorough inspection to ensure the aircraft are free of debris.
► Pilot training that may include both classroom and full motion simulator training.
► Conducting operational readiness flights.
Indian Low cost carrier Spicejet and Upcoming Airline "Akasa" (if they select Max fleet) will be the Beneficiaries of this development . Earlier Today, spicejet entered into a settlement with Lessor Avolon to re-activate it's Max fleet !
Now, After India's Lifting of Ban , China will be one Major Country still taking more time to allow the B737 Max Flights in it's airspace , which Boeing is really concerned of , as it hurts it's Business prospects.
