Teruel Airport Consortium does not rule out reaching an agreement with Tarmac Aerosave in Aviation International Recycling Bidding Case.

Octavio López, the president of the Teruel Airport Consortium, does not rule out reaching an agreement with Tarmac Aerosave before the High Court of Justice of Aragon (TSJA) resolves the lawsuit filed by the company in which it requests that the call for the tender procedure for land for the dismantling and recycling of aircraft on the expansion surface be annulled. which was resolved in favor of Aviation International Recycling (AIR).

Aviation International Recycling plans to build a 10,000-square-meter hangar, along with an apron. These, along with other facilities and equipment, will require an investment of €21.8 million over five years.

Tarmac Aragón , a company of the Tarmac Aerosave group, in which Airbus participates, and which was the first company to establish itself at theTeruel Airport, has filed an appeal before the courts to stop and cancel the concession, since it considers that its concession for the storage, scrapping and recycling of aircraft is exclusive.

However, according to López, the Consortium maintains that the exclusivity defended by Tarmac Aragón on maintenance and recycling activities is limited to the initial approach of Teruel Airport while the eighty hectares of the new concession are located on land of the latest expansion plan processed as PIGA.

"We defend our position but, in any legal procedure, there are times when an agreement can be reached. In fact, it would be the most desirable. In any case, we have good criteria and principles of defense to obtain the validation of everything that has been worked on in this case," said the counselor.

"If there is no agreement, the court will have to decide on these two clearly opposed, contradictory positions, in which we defend that there is no exclusivity in certain soils and Tarmac understands that there is," he added.

The president of the Consortium commented that Tarmac Aerosave could have participated in the bidding process, but that only AIR did. On the other hand, he explained that in their judicial strategy they also allege that now the investments must be undertaken by companies that wish to set up instead of being financed through the Teruel Investment Fund (Fite), fundamentally.

"Therefore, the location, the concept and the way of understanding the relationship of the concessions changes. And all that is what we have tried to convey in our response to the lawsuit in the contentious administrative process," he concluded.

Earlier, Teruel Airport awarded Aviation Internacional Recycling (AIR) , part of the Zaragoza-based López Soriano group , an 80-hectare plot of land for the dismantling and recycling of aircraft and their components.

Aviation Internacional Recycling will pay an annual fee of 153,670 euros for the 40-year concession (extendable for another 10 years) , although the two years will be exempt from this fee for the construction of the works, installation, and management of the activity license, among other initial issues.

This initiative is part of a Project of General Interest of Aragon (PIGA) that will extend the airport facilities by 195 hectares added to the current area, ” said Plata, the company that manages the airport.

In addition to the works being carried out by Aviation International Recycling, work will begin in September on the expansion of the platform in Phase III, which will add 37,000 square meters, and on the Phase V field, which includes access to the PIGA grounds.

Aviation International Recycling was the only company to submit a bid , and according to their announcement, their dismantling and recycling activities will include research into composite materials, particularly their recycling.
