With just 80 passengers in the first six months of 2026, Tulcea Danube Delta Airport is the worst performing in the country, as Published by antena3.romania.
Data published by the Romanian Airports Association shows that last year, Delta Danube Airport had only 8,173 passengers, registering the lowest turnout in the country.
However, country's main Airport, Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, had just over 17 million passengers, Cluj airport with over 3.5 million passengers.
Completed in 2024, following an investment of 70 million euros, the Tulcea Danube Delta Airport (TCE/LRTC) is located in south-eastern Romania, 16 km (9.9 mi) south of the city of Tulcea.
The airport primarily handles private jets and occasional charter flights rather than regular passenger airlines.
Highly underused, the Romanian state subsidizes its operation with over two million euros annually.
Most travelers access the delta via Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP), which is a 4.5-hour bus or train ride away.
The management of the "Delta Danube" Tulcea Airport aims improvement, claims that it is considering implementing international flights, with the destination being Rome (Italy) and return.
