Pilot  of  a  Sinking  Beechcraft  Bonanza   aircraft  was  rescued  off  the  coast  of  Cedar  Key  ,  Florida  .

Pilot of a Sinking Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft was rescued off the coast of Cedar Key , Florida .

A  Beechcraft  V35  Bonanza  aircraft  of  'Jerrys  Kids  Aviation' crashed into the water shortly after takeoff from George T. Lewis Airport, FL (CDK/KCDK) on 9th November 2021.

 

The accident took place just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, located half of a mile off the coast between North Key and Dead Man’s Key.

 

Coincidentally , the U.S. Air and Marine Operations’ (AMO) (Tampa Marine Unit) alongside Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Impact Unit were conducting joint operations offshore Cedar Key, Florida at the same time.

 
  • While the joint oeration was underway, an aircraft was spotted floating in the water approximately half a mile from the George T. Lewis Airport.
  • Post crash , the pilot climbed out of the aircraft and stood on the aircraft crown, waiting for the help.
 

Both the teams took swift action, and  as the agents approached the sinking aircraft registered as N87565, a man was spotted climbing out and standing on the fuselage.

 


 

Agents ensured that the pilot was the only occupant and were able to rescue him from the aircraft to an AMO Coastal Interceptor Vessel.

 

Agents also conducted an initial medical assessment of the pilot and contacted other entities for further assistance. Local Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene to conduct a more thorough evaluation of the individual.

 

“The situational awareness and quick actions of the Marine Interdiction Agents and Sheriff’s Deputies prevented a possible human tragedy," said Michael Matthies, Deputy Director of Marine Operations. "We are thankful we have the proper resources and trained personnel to perform when incidents like this present themselves.” 

 

Authorities from the Cedar Key Police Department and Fire Department, along with Dixie and Levy County Sheriff’s deputies, Florida Fish and Wildlife officers are in Cedar Key investigating the crash.
