Big ! Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) provisionally suspended all Certificates of Airworthiness of Russian aircraft !

In major blow to Russian aviation , Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) , Bermuda revoked  the licenses ( Certificates  of  Airworthiness ) of  Russian aircraft , that is around 745 , if counted and almost 50% of fleet of  Russia’s carriers.

On saturday , BCAA released to press about this development, owing to the ongoing International sanctions on Russia , which was a result of the Invasion of Ukraine.

The press Statement by BCAA  :

International sanctions on the aviation sector have had a significant impact on the ability to sustain safety oversight on Russian operated aircraft on the Bermuda Aircraft Registry. The airworthiness system has been restricted to the point that the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) is unable to confidently approve these aircraft as being airworthy.

Therefore, as of 23:59 UTC on March 12th 2022, the BCAA has provisionally suspended all Certificates of Airworthiness of those aircraft operating under the Article 83bis Agreement between Bermuda and the Russian Federation.

For any aircraft airborne at 23:59 UTC on March 12th 2022, the provisional suspension is effective immediately upon landing.

It is not very difficult to understand that  "tax avoidance"  is among the major reasons for these Russian airlines registering their aircraft in Bermuda , under BCCA .

The current development can be treated as another big blow to the Russian carriers , after European Lessors terminated their lease agreement due to Europian Union sanctions.

One Day before ,  The International Civil Aviation Organization had said , "Any dual registration of foreign-owned aircraft leased by Russian carriers would be inconsistent with parts of a key agreement that sets out core principles for global aviation."
