On friday at around 1:30 p.m. LT, an Augusta AW119 Koala Helicopter crashed on the Highway to Laredo of Apodaca, Monterrey, after taking off from General Mariano Escobedo International Airport.
Apparently, the helicopter clipped the powerlines above the highway and impacted the on the sidewalk between the division of the low speed lane under unknown circumstances.
Local media suggest that the captain of the aircraft would have lost his life in the accident and there were no other occupants on board.
The Koala helicopter that belonged to the Bank of Utah Trustee (unconfirmed sources) was a single-engine turboshaft aircraft with registration number N119AA.
Rescue and medical service personnel came to the scene and the fire team managed to put out the fire, but the helicopter was severely damaged due to the intense flames.
Area was secured immediately. Reason of the crash , whether technical or operational is yet be ascertained.
