Argentine prosecutor's office endorsed the seizure of the Iranian-Venezuelan 747 Freighter that the US had requested.

  • The Emtrasur plane - under the subsidiary of the Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services ( Conviasa ), to be remain seized.
  • The cargo jet was wanted by the U.S. authorities, as she has been linked to alleged terrorist activities.
  • Aircraft has been detained in Argentina since the middle of last year, when it landed at the Buenos Aires airport and due to the sanctions by the United States.
  • They even detained the 19 crew members who were on it, who are now free.

Argentinian Federal prosecutor Cecilia Incardona authorized the seizure of the Venezuelan State cargo plane, Boeing de Emtrasur , which landed a year and a half ago in Argentina, with Venezuelan and Iranian crew members.

The federal prosecutor of Lomas de Zamora Cecilia Incardona, and the head of the General Directorate of Regional and International Cooperation of the Attorney General of the Nation (DIGCRI), Diego Solernó, maintained that it  is appropriate the request for confiscation of the Iranian-Venezuelan plane made by the Federal Court of the District of Columbia of the United States .

At the moment, the only thing missing is the ruling of the federal judge of Lomas de Zamora Federico Villlena, and that is that the government of Javier Milei sent the request of the United States Justice, which the former vice minister of Justice and Cristina Kirchner's man, Juan Martín Mena , was blocked for months due to his relationship with Chavismo , as published by the newspaper El Clarín in its website.

Recently, the EMTRASUR Boeing 747-3B3M plane (YV3531), was seen to be moving for the first time over an year at Ezeiza Airport, which could be due to certain relocation exercise.

The Boeing 747 of the Venezuelan state airline Emtrasur had arrived in the Argentine capital on June 6, 2022 and, two days later, it was scheduled to go to Montevideo, but Uruguay denied it access to its airspace, so it had to return to Ezeiza airport, where it was seized after being stranded due to lack of fuel.

At that time, the federal justice of Lomas de Zamora had opened an investigation to find out if the plane was used to carry out suspicious activities.

There were 12 occupants. Five were targeted: the pilot Gholamreza Ghasemi, Abdolbaset Mohammadi, Saeid Valizadeh, Víctor Manuel Pérez and Mario Arraga Urdaneta. The plane's occupants said it was a flight training trip. After being delayed, they were found to be without merit.

It should be noted that in October 2022 and May 2023, the US justice system made a series of requests for international legal assistance where it requested that the aircraft “Boeing 747-300 with registration number YV-3531” be confiscated.

Worth noting is , the EMTRASUR aircraft was previously owned by Mahan Air (Iran) under the registration EP-MND.

These requests were sent by the Minister of Justice of the Nation, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, within the framework of the Treaty of Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, signed between Argentina and the United States in accordance with Law 24,034.

In an opinion accessed by Infobae, Incardona stated:

“It is important to emphasize that we are facing a process of international cooperation, in which there are no questions regarding the substance of the matter, which must be formulated before the competent judicial authority in the matter. requesting country."
