Air China Confirms $10.8 Billion Purchase of 100 Comac C919 Aircraft In a Boost to Chinese Domestic Development.

  • Air China has placed an order for 100 new C919 aircraft to support the China's domestic Aerospace industry.
  • Comac is European Airbus and American Boeing's Chinese competitor, for the narrow body passenger segment.
  • The Comac C919 is similar to the new Airbus A320neo and Boeing B737MAX.
  • Air China is a major player in China and is starting to become a significant competitor globally.
  • The value of the Air China order amounts to more than 10 billion euros.

China’s narrow body passenger aircraft C919 has received another major order from China’s national carrier, a move that will boost COMAC's production on the aircraft model and financial prospects.

Air China said on Friday said that the company has inked an agreement for 100 Chinese domestically developed narrow body passenger aircraft COMAC C919.

Expectedly, delivery schedule starts this year as the model is in its initial days of aviation industry acceptance, these 100 aircraft are planned to be delivered to Air China in batches from 2024 to 2031.

According to the announcement, based on the latest catalog price provided by COMAC, the total basic price of the above 100 C919 aircraft is approximately US$10.8 billion (S$14.7 billion).

After fair negotiations between the buyer and the seller, COMAC gave Air China a larger price discount for purchasing the aircraft, so the actual consideration for this transaction was lower than the aforementioned basic price of the aircraft.

COMAC C919 obtained the Civil Aviation Administration of China type certificate on September 29, 2022, obtained the production license from the Civil Aviation Administration of China on November 29. On December 9, 2022, the world's first C919 was delivered to China Eastern Airlines.

According to a report by China Youth Daily last year, China Eastern Airlines and COMAC signed an aircraft purchase agreement in Shanghai. Based on the first batch of five aircraft signed in 2021, China Eastern Airlines will order an additional 100 C919 large passenger aircraft.

In February this year, Tibet Airlines, a regional airline based at Gonggar Airport (LXA) in Lhasa, had placed an order for 40 COMAC C919 and 10 ARJ21 jets at the Singapore Airshow 2024.
