On Monday, a Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee aircraft crashed into the woods at Brownsville of Haywood County due to a Technical snag .
The single-engine aircraft crashed at around 5 p.m. , heavily damaging the body but the sole pilot was lucky to escape with minor injuiries.
The plane that took off from the Jackson-Madison County Regional Airport crashed due to engine problems, as stated by the pilot .
“He said he was having engine problems, and he attempted to land but hit some trees,” said Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr. “By the grace of God, he was able to walk away from the plane.”
The aircraft caught fire upon crashing, and is “heavily damaged, but not destroyed.” After climbing from the wreckage, the pilot walked to the roadway, where he called for help.
Garrett considered the day to be a good one as the pilot could talk.
“Typically we don’t the opportunity to talk to a pilot after a crash like that,” he said. “It was a good day, because he was able to walk away.”
