Parked aircrafts at Guatemala City La Aurora Airport were coated with ash fall from the eruption of the Pacaya volcano, 20 km to the south of the city, located in San Vicente Pacaya, Escuintla.


General Civil Aeronautical Directorate was advised to maintain the closure of La Aurora International Airport due to this Volcanic Ash event.

Operations under volcanic ash contaminated zone is always a threat to the Aircraft engines , that might develop snags , including IFSD( Inflight Shut downs). Many such incidents have been observed in the past.
