A Turkish Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules (reg. 68-01609) military transport aircraft crashed after a mid-air disintegration in Georgia, after taking-off from Azerbaijan.

 

The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced that a C130 military cargo plane, which had taken off from Azerbaijan to Türkiye, crashed on the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

 
 

According to the ministry, search and rescue operations are continuing.

"A C130 military cargo plane that had taken off from Azerbaijan to our country crashed on the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan. The search and rescue operations were launched in coordination with the Azerbaijani and Georgian authorities," reads a message from the Turkish Ministry of Defence. 

 

 

The mid-air disintegration can be seen clearly in the visuals where the wings attached to the center section of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft is on a free fall.

 
 

The Georgian Interior Ministry said the accident occurred in the Sighnaghi region of eastern Georgia, about five kilometers after crossing the border.

"An investigation has been opened," the ministry added in a statement, promising the publication soon of "detailed information on the incident".

 

No information has yet been shared about the personnel on board the aircraft.
