Post Pandemic Recovery has changed the scenario, when bigger airlines have poached the Pilots from regional carriers to fill their vacancies and it's obvious that the Regionals are bearing the Burnt !
Recently , U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg had warned of enforcement actions against airlines that do not live up to consumer-protection standards.
So, indications are obvious, U.S. carriers do not want to mess up or create chaos due to staff shortages at least , specifically when law makers and DoT are hawkish !
Now , American Airlines subsidiary Envoy Air is offering pilots triple pay if they pick up open shifts during the month of July, considered the peak summer travel season, to avoid any further delays , cancellations and disruptions during the long Fourth of July holiday travel weekend.
"I let them know that this is a moment when we are really counting on them to deliver reliably for the traveling public ," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg last week, while asking airlines to hire more staff ahead of the 'July Fourth' holiday weekend !
Envoy Air Statements :
“As part of the proactive strategy to run a reliable schedule during the peak summer travel season , Envoy is offering pilots triple pay to pick up uncovered trips on their days off in the month of July.”
“This will only be offered if there are open trips available, and currently Envoy is fully covered with its flight schedule this summer.”
Earlier this month , American Airlines' regional subsidiaries - Envoy , Piedmont , and PSA had agreed to a temporary 50% pay bump for pilots through August 2024.
