"I let them know that this is a moment when we are really counting on them to deliver reliably for the traveling public," says U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg while asking airlines to hire more staff ahead of the 'July Fourth' holiday weekend !
Europe is suffering it's worst at the moment , in the domain of air travel due to acute shortage of skilled manpower, post Pandemic.
U.S.A. does not want to repeat that , specifically times like Independence Day , when the travel demand will be at it's peak !
Over 700 flights heading in or out of the U.S. have already been canceled on Sunday, while 860 flights were canceled on Saturday and over 6,000 were delayed.
Buttigieg also warned of enforcement actions against airlines that do not live up to consumer-protection standards.
Transportation Secretary is pushing airlines to test their summer schedules to ensure they can operate all planned flights with the employees they have , and to add customer-service workers.
As a traveller , Buttigieg revealed that a flight he was supposed to catch on Friday was canceled and he ended up driving from Washington to New York.
Meanwhile , IATA Director General Willie Walsh says , Airport chaos and delays are "isolated" and "not every airport is experiencing problems."
