44 out of 216 controllers in Warsaw's Frederic Chopin Airport (IATA: WAW, ICAO: EPWA) have resigned last month and 130 are planning to quit this month , in a protest to certain ongoing issues .
The protest comes as a reaction to ,
► the changes made to the functioning of the flight regulatory body, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency in the month of january ,
► as well as to allegations that it was not properly ensuring airspace security.
► the introduction of a new salary system, which has not gone well with the staff.
Notewothy is , Navigation Services Agency offers salaries of up to 45,000 zlotys ($10,500) per month for the most experienced controllers.
On a precautionary note , Poland's Civil Aviation Authority has posted a warning that flights may be delayed or cancelled in the coming days.
On Saturday, a number of arrivals and departures were delayed by an average of 30 minutes at the airport.
It is being learnt that that he current situation is the result of shortages in the control tower's staff, that developed during the first quarter of the year.
A new chief for the Agency was appointed on 31st March to bring the situation under control , sources say, negotiations are continuing to reach to an amicable solution.
In another development , that has affected the airspace control in the country is - "airspace over eastern Poland was reserved only for military training and defense purposes, due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine."
