Organizations such as Greenpeace, Milieudefensie, Urgenda and Extinction Rebellion have started to unite the activists and neighbours of International and Regional airports in the Netherlands.
They want to downsize Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS/EHAM) and close smaller ones like Lelystad Airport (LEY/EHLE).

Neighbours of the Airports and environmental activists aim changes in regional airports in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Maastricht, Groningen and Lelystad , apart from Schiphol.
They believe , Aviation sector should shrink significantly , Schiphol must downsize and smaller airports must be closed and they protest against "the growing nuisance and pollution from air traffic.".
They say,
"The aviation industry has many harmful effects on society" ,
"The sector makes a major contribution to dangerous global warming , much-needed housing is becoming impossible and public health is at risk from noise pollution, emissions of ultrafine particles and carcinogenic substances."
Not for the first time , they have done this earlier as well. Two years back , on 14th May 2020 , Greenpeace activists cycled onto the runway at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport to demand climate conditions for any airline bailout.

Taxpayer's money should be used for the public good, not handed out no-strings to airline bosses.#BailOutPeopleNotCorporations pic.twitter.com/woOmdwKEdk
