The Mexican federal government has published an agreement by which it allocates to the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) the Presidential Hangar, located within the facilities of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).
The Official Gazette of the Federation of Mexico published the agreement by which the federal property called "Presidential Hangar", located at the Mexico City International Airport, is allocated to the Secretariat of National Defense.
The Agreement published in the Official Gazette of the Federation and which will enter into force this Wednesday, December 27, stands out.
"The federal property called 'Presidential Hangar', with a land area of 127,405.03 square meters and construction area of 20,164.39 square meters, with Federal Real Estate Registry 9-17610-3, located at Boulevard Puerto Aéreo S/N, Civil Aviation Airport Settlement, C.P. 15620, Venustiano Carranza Mayor's Office, Mexico City, is destined to the Ministry of National Defense, to continue using it in military activities."
It is clarified that the agreement only confers on Sedena the right to use the property destined for authorized use, but does not transfer ownership of it, nor does it grant any real right over it, in accordance with Article 70 of the General Law of National Assets.
According to the agreement, Sedena will be responsible for guarding, monitoring and covering the expenses for the maintenance of the Presidency Hangar,in addition to other services.
In addition, in the event that Sedena wants to chain it, all its projects will have to have the approval of different authorities. The army will have to obtain the corresponding permits, put together tenders and carry out the processes that every secretariat follows.
It highlights that by means of official letter 3573/53479/CI-PRE dated November 12, 2023, the Director General of Engineers and Head of Real Estate of Sedena requested that the Administrative Agreement for the Destination of the federal property described in the First Recital of this instrument be granted, since it is in the interest of that agency to have the legal certainty that allows it to continue to be used in military activities.
Until 2018, the Presidential Hangar was owned by the Presidency of the Republic, but managed by the extinct Presidential General Staff.
Worth mentioning , in April 2019, the then head of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, Javier Jiménez Espriú, stated in one of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's morning conferences that the presidential hangar would become a third AICM terminal.
“It will connect with Terminal 2, that will give greater breadth to the Mexico City airport,” he had quoted .
