In a sign of increased demand of air travel and controlled Covid-19 infection cases, India removes the 'Capacity caps' on domestic scheduled flights to be removed effective 18th October 21.
Indian Regulator -DGCA removed the 'Covid-19 applied Cap' from the domestic sector flying via an order number 27 /2021 dated 12th October 21.
The Letter read,
Reference is invited to this Ministry's Order No. 01/2020 dated 21.05.2020 regarding opening of the domestic civil flight operations in a calibrated manner and subsequent orders modifying capacity restrictions from time to time. The last amendment was made vide Order No. 25/2021 dated 18.09.2021.
After the review of current status of scheduled Domestic operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel in terms of purpose specified in the initial order No. 01/2020 dated 21.05.2020, condition laid down in para 2 of the order dated 21.05.2020 as last amended vide order No. 25/2021 dated 18.09.2021, it has been decided to restore the scheduled domestic air operations with effect from 18.10.2021 without any capacity restriction.
Basically the capacity restriction is being released from the 85% cap on the capacity operation of the domestic carriers, citing the demand of air travel , that will keep the air fares under check.
Earlier the Operators of India’s major airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, mostly private operators, had asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation led by a New Civil Aviation Minister to remove the applied caps on capacity and price as this is discouraging transaction of passengers and also sustaining a dent on their incomes.
Surely, this new development can be treated as a positive development for the return of air travel ahead of festive seasons, and improvement in indian aviation domain.
