Valencia airport was among the aerodromes with the most passengers in Spain, the one that grew the most percentage-wise in 2023, 22.6 percent, with nearly 10 million users. The Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport, with 15.7 million passengers, grew by 19.2%, an increase only behind Valencia, Málaga (21.1%) and Barcelona (19.9%).

 
 

In terms of operations, the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport was the third that grew the most in percentage terms, 11.6%, with 100,547, behind Barcelona (12.5%) and Málaga-Costa del Sol (12.2% ).

Nearly Ten million Passengers !

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in 2023 with 60.2 million, which represents a growth of 18.9% compared to 2022, of which 43.8 million were international (20.9% more) and 16.4 million, national (14% more), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 49.9 million (19.9% more).

 

December was the peak, almost 20.2 million passengers registered throughout the Aena network, 20.13 million were commercial, of which 7.2 million traveled on domestic flights, 7.5% more than a year before, and 12.9 million, on international routes, 16.4% more.

 

The number of aircraft operations was 176,368, 11.3% more than in the same month of 2022, while the merchandise transported totaled 99,728 tons, 17.3% more.

 

The chairman and CEO of Aena, Maurici Lucena , highlighted that

"these record figures in air transport are fundamental for the economic and social development of Spain." "We should all congratulate ourselves on them. Also the airlines that, like Aena, suffered the harsh consequences of the pandemic, and are now transporting more passengers than ever," he added.

 

 

Throughout the year 2023, Aena managed more than 2.4 million aircraft takeoffs and landings, 8.5% more than in 2022, and 1,079,676 tons of merchandise were moved, a figure that represents 7.9% more than the previous year and a historical record in cargo transportation.

 

Of the total number of travelers last year, almost 282.4 million were commercial passengers, of which 189.7 million traveled on international flights, 18.2% more than in 2022, and 92.7 million on domestic flights, a 12.6% more.
