Doncaster Sheffield Airport (IATA: DSA, ICAO: EGCN) to close , Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has announced that it will have to shutdown , despite news suggesting that it had received a lifesaving offer.
But the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Doncaster Council have offered to cover the airports operating losses for up the 13 months while a buyer is found.
The Peel Group has turned the offer down, saying it cannot ‘responsibly accept public money’ - despite the massive economic benefits keeping the airport open has to the region.
Just a couple of weeks after U.K. Prime minister Truss made the statement that she would "absolutely ensure Doncaster Sheffield airport would be protected" , the Shocking news of Airport closure comes up.
Peel Group , which is behind the DSA , said that the decision was made due to a fundamental lack of financial viability for the airport . About the Jobs, the company is said to be in consultation with staff, but many will be fearing for their future after the news.
However Airport operations group MAG has released a statement on Doncaster Sheffield Airport Closure , to provide opportunity for interviews and probable intake of Jobless employees !
A MAG spokesperson said:
“Following the sad news of the planned closure of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA), Manchester Airports Group (MAG), will offer all affected staff a guaranteed interview for vacancies across its three airports – East Midlands, London Stansted and Manchester."
“East Midlands Airport will be participating in a jobs fair tomorrow, Tuesday 27th September at The Chatsworth Arts Centre in Long Eaton, and London Stansted Airport will host a jobs fair on Tuesday 4th October at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Stansted Airport."
“All affected staff from DSA are invited to attend, to learn more about available opportunities and the recruitment process."
“For anyone unable to attend the upcoming events, or for more information about available roles across the Group, affected staff should visit MAG’s careers website, linked here.”
Political leaders in South Yorkshire attempted to keep the airport open (which employs 800 people) with financial offers made, but Peel Group have said that operations will wind down from the 31st October.
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard says he's devastated & angry about Peel's decision to close Doncaster Sheffield airport . He says their decision to turn down a funding offer shows "Peel was never serious about finding an alternative and safeguarding the future of DSA."
