“The Department of Transportation needs to take action. They should start fining airlines up to $27,500 per passenger for every flight they cancel that they knew they didn’t have the staff to fly , just as the Obama administration did in 2009 whenever airlines left a plane on the tarmac for over 3 hours ,” Fetterman said in a statement on Wednesday , but Bernie Sanders is even stricter , he just wants to double up the amount.
In our previous article , we had mentioned about the hawkish lawmakers on Aviation sector flight cancellations due to shortage of staffs - more specifically for the upcoming Fourth of July travel weekend.
Someone proved it to be true, when Pennsylvania Senate nominee John Fetterman (D) called on the Biden administration to penalize carriers for the flights cancellations, which are already happening in thousands, as the 'Fourth of July' travel weekend approaches.
This past weekend airlines cancelled more than 2,000 flights.

People are missing weddings + family reunions because airlines are failing consumers.
We need to hold these airlines accountable.
Tax payers saved them, and now it’s their turn to hold up their end of the deal.
Fetterman talks about the $54 billion in COVID-19 pandemic relief funds carriers received , repeating the lines used by the FAA , which argued the allocated funds should have allowed the airlines to keep themselves fully staffed as travel demand returned back.
He said ,
“But despite requirements to retain their workforce under the terms of the bailout, the airlines found loopholes to push thousands of pilots and crew out of their jobs.”
Carriers are struggling in Europe and U.S.A. , and the signs are clear from their desperate employment offers for interns, benefits and payment hikes for employees to keep their operations under control to avoid any kind of Chaos !
After asking Biden administration of fining airlines exceeding a certain time limit on the tarmac , he said ,
“DOT must also look into ways to ensure that airlines are compensating consumers for sunk costs. It’s the very least they can do for violating the trust of their customers,”
“Government has a responsibility to hold these airlines accountable. Tax payers saved them, and now it’s their turn to hold up their end of the deal.”
Senator Bernie Sanders is even stricter as he mulls a bigger fine on the carriers , he said today ,
The American people are sick of airlines ripping them off, canceling flights at the last minute and delaying flights for hours on end. It's time for @SecretaryPete to fine airlines $55,000 per passenger for every flight cancellation they know can’t be fully staffed.

In a direct charge on the U.S. carriers , Fetterman blamed them to be overpromising, underdelivering, and booking passengers on flights that they know they will not have the staff to operate.
