On 10th april , the Cockpit of an Air India Express flight from Riyadh, KSA was aware of the fact that aircraft has already suffered a tyre damage while departing and they have to land the aircraft safely .
The 14.7 years old Boeing 737-800 aircraft was doing a flight (IX-1322) from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) to Kozhikode (India) with 160 people on board and crew had a safety concern landing on the Table Top runway of Kozhikode.
Crew Onboard the indian registered aircraft (Regd : VT-AXI) performing flight (dep Apr 10th) , decided while cruising at FL350 , that Kozhikode runway may not be the suitable option to land with a burst tyre.
The aircraft landed safely at Kochi International Airport with out further incidents followed by a normal passenger disembarkation.
On 7th August 2020 from an Air India express aircraft VT-AXH operating a flight IX1344 from Dubai (UAE) to Kozhikode (India) aborted two landing attempts due to poor visibility and heavy rain. On the third landing attempt, the aircraft touched down on runway 10, but skidded off the end of the tabletop runway and slid down a 35 ft slope , killing 19 passengers and both pilots onboard . Kozhikode Airport ( Calicut ) has always been a challenging option for emergency landings.
