Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, under the regime of Taliban, is slowly normalizing the Civil Aviation Frame work in the country and in the region with the help of friendly countries.
While we witnessed another new airline, Iran Air Tour, started operating to Kabul International airport from today onwards, many carriers have started using the Kabul FIR regularly due to the current Geo-pilitical situation
Today (Monday, 28 October), Afghanistan and the State of Qatar, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of air services to enhance the transportation rights between the two countries.
It's to be noted that Qatar has been supporting the efforts of recognition of Taliabn led Afghanistan, since it gained control over the country after the departure of U.S. soldiers and officials 3 years ago.
In June this year, a Taliban delegation attended a United Nations-led meeting in Qatar on Afghanistan sanctions and crisis, that spanned two-days in the Qatari capital of Doha.
For now, the signed MoU came within the framework of connecting the State of Qatar with air service agreements, providing Qatar Airways, the flag carrier of Qatar, the opportunity to expand its global destinations.
“The MoU comes in the context of connecting the State of Qatar with more air services agreements, allowing for its national carrier to expand its network of destinations around the world,” the statement read.
The latest development comes amid an increase in overflights over Afghanistan in the past two months, that was due to the prevailing airspace crisis over Iran, owing to the increased tension between Israel and Iran.
Afghanistan (OAKX/Kabul FIR) has seen a record high number of international flights passing through its airspace in the past week bring revenue to the country.
Worth mentioning here, air traffic control for flights using Kabul FIR has not been available since the U.S. forces withdrew from the country in 2021.
The MoU was co-signed by Acting President of the General Civil Aviation Authority Mohamed Faleh Al Hajri and Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation in the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan Abdul Salam Haidari for the State of Qatar and Afghanistan respectively.
The signing ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti.Following the signing ceremony, HE the Minister of Transport met with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation in the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries in the areas of civil aviation, transport and communications.
Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, in its social media handle, said:
"A bilateral meeting was held this morning between the civil aviation authorities of both Qatar and Afghanistan."
"The Qatari side was led by Mr. Mohamed bin Faleh Al-Hajri, In Charge of Managing QCAA, while the Afghan side by His Excellency Mr. Mula Haidari, Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan."
"The talks focused on ways to enhance cooperation in the field of air transport between the two countries and addressed various topics of mutual interest in the field of civil aviation."
