Wizz Air says, Only 5% of the world's commercial pilots are women, but we believe it's time to change that. Understandably, they have taken a step in that direction.
Wizz Air today announces the launch of its "She can fly" cadet program, as part of the Wizz Air Pilot Academy for women aspiring to become commercial pilots. Wizz Air Pilot Academy is the market leading training program for highly motivated female candidates to obtain a commercial pilot license. Since its launch in 2017, more than 150 people have successfully completed the program and are now working for Wizz Air as female pilots.
At a time when only 5% of pilots in this industry are women, Wizz Air is committed to breaking down gender stereotypes and supporting gender equality in this profession as well. The new Pilot Academy program for women over the age of 18 offers a unique, simple and financially accessible way to become commercial pilots at Wizz Air.
The training program, which accepts applicants with little or no experience, lasts 18 months in cooperation with the Tréner Flight Academy in Hungary. The airline is committed to providing more than 20 seats per year to women who believe that gender barriers should not exist.
The integrated ATPL program begins with Ab-Initio training where female cadets will acquire the theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to become female pilots. Female cadets who successfully graduate undergo advanced training, which includes a five-week transition course to fly Airbus A320 aircraft. After that, the female cadets will undergo special training for Wizz Air, before becoming full-fledged first officers of the airline.
Wizz Air's "She can fly" cadet program offers a best-in-class offering, as the course offers unprecedentedly low tuition and pre-enrollment employment to demonstrate the airline's commitment to the program. Female cadets are required to pay only 800 euros before the course, and the remaining 60,668 euros are paid by the airline in advance if the cadets meet the standard requirements after the fifth month of training.
Female cadets will pay the remaining fee in equal installments over 6 years after receiving full salary as first officers at Wizz Air. Female cadets who join Wizz Air through the Pilot Academy program, including the "She can fly" program, will have the opportunity to fly the airline's ever-growing fleet of young, ultra-modern and sustainable Airbus aircraft on more than 900 routes to nearly 200 destinations in more than 50 countries. countries.
The recruitment of new female cadets supports Wizz Air's ambitious plans to more than triple the size of its fleet to 500 aircraft by 2030, employing up to 4,600 new pilots.
