With only 10 business days until the new Mexicana de Aviación begins operations, the company reported that it will only sell tickets for nine of the 20 routes with which it originally said it would begin, the company has already put those air tickets on sale.
After many expectations and rumors, the destinations to which the airline will fly in a first phase starting November 25 from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Mexico City have been confirmed.
It was already known that, for the moment, the airline was only going to fly to domestic destinations. However, to the disappointment of many, Mexicana de Aviación has already made its first cancellations and it so happens that they have affected the most tourist destinations , especially those in the Mexican Caribbean.
For the moment, the airline will not operate to Cancun, Chetumal or Cozumel . These canceled destinations are joined by other less touristy ones: Bajío, Ciudad Juárez, Campeche, Hermosillo, La Paz, Mérida, San José del Cabo and Tijuana.
There could be various factors, those caused Mexicana de Aviación to reduce the number of destinations it will operate from 20 to nine at its start.
On its website, the carrier has announced that it will fly to Acapulco , Guadalajara , Huatulco , Monterrey , Mazatlán , Oaxaca , Puerto Vallarta , Villahermosa and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo starting on November 25, 2023. For flights to these destinations, passengers will receive an email where they can complete the reservation and payment process.
In the case of passengers who have booked tickets for Bajío , Ciudad Juárez , Campeche, Chetumal , Cancún, Cozumel, Hermosillo, La Paz , Mérida , San José del Cabo and Tijuana , starting November 25, 2023, they will receive an email where they will be given compensation.
It is not yet officially detailed why this reduction was made; however, there is a delay in the delivery of aircraft to the market by manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, due to the global aircraft reviews that engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney is carrying out. On the other hand Boeing is not able to clear the backlog of existing operators with firm orders for its workhorse B737 model.
In the absence of Boeing B737 aircraft, Mexicana de Aviación will begin operations with a 50-seat Embraer 145, they leased the ERJ-145 from TAR to obtain the Air Operator Certificate.
