Like Airbus , Embraer comes up with the concept of sustainable propulsion technology powered aircraft - the 'Energia family' – 4 concept aircraft with hybrid , electric and hydrogen fuel sustainable aviation fuel , and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion solutions ! Floats a timeline !

 

Embraer says,

 

Our Energia project is exploring a range of sustainable concepts to carry up to 50 passengers. This project is considering a number of energy sources, propulsion architectures and airframe layouts to reduce our carbon emissions by 50% starting from 2030 – a key step in our goal to be net carbon neutral by 2050.

 

The Embraer Timeline !

The future of aviation must have a lower impact. It means lower emissions, lower noise levels and lower fuel consumption. To achieve our goals, we’re exploring a wide range of bold but viable aircraft designs in our Energia concepts– reimagining and conceptualizing everything from the aircraft’s power source to the shape of the airframe – all to achieve the industry-wide goal of net carbon zero by 2050.


 

Design 1 : ENERGIA HYBRID

Combining a mix of technologies, hybrid-electric propulsion enables us to harvest the benefits from maximizing thermal and electric engines synergies.

Expectations !

Technology Readiness – 2030
Range – 500 nm
Seats – 9 pax
Noise – 60% lower External Noise

Carbon Emissions –
● 50% less CO2 with jetA1
● 90% less CO2 with SAF

 

Design 2 : ENERGIA ELECTRIC

By developing higher capacity and longer-lasting batteries, a full-electric aircraft, designed for short-range missions, could reduce the aircraft CO2 emissions to zero.

Technology Readiness – 2035
Range – 200 nm
Seats – 9 pax

Emissions – Zero CO2
Noise – 80% lower External Noise

 

Design 3 : ENERGIA H2 FUEL CELL

Hydrogen is a highly promising area in our journey to achieve zero emission flight – enabling us to generate thrust while reducing carbon emissions to zero. Hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to either run as a single power source or as a hybrid with gas turbines or batteries.

Range – 200nm
Seats – 19 pax

Emissions – Zero CO2
Noise – 70% lower External Noise

 

Design 4 : ENERGIA H2 GAS TURBINE

Dual-fuel enables us to power a gas turbine with two different fuel sources (SAF or Hydrogen), to maximize operational flexibility and reduce aircraft weight. Using a modified gas turbine, adapted to these new fuel sources, we can increase range and passengers capacity.

Range – 350 – 500nm
Seats – 35-50 pax

Emissions – Zero CO2
Noise – 60% lower External Noise
