Austrian Airlines wants you take care of the part of carbon emission due to your travel , be responsible voluntarily. The carrier wants you to select the option "use of sustainable aviation fuel" during booking process.
In this way, they compensate for the CO2 emissions generated on their respective flights. The "Compensaid" tool, a development of the Lufthansa Innovation Hub, is used for the purpose.
"Compensaid" tool calculates exactly the amount of CO2 emitted and then offers a corresponding compensation with sustainable fuel. Compared to conventional kerosene, sustainable fuel reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent. It can also be fed into regular flight operations without infrastructure adjustments.
Our passengers can now select the use of sustainable fuel for their flight in the booking process. In doing so, they compensate for the CO2 emissions generated on their respective flight. The applied tool is called “Compensaid”
In addition, the possibility remains to support climate protection projects, which Austrian Airlines offers in cooperation with Climate Austria. These include projects for the use of clean energy in Austria and Gold Standard projects in Africa that sustainably avoid CO2.
Austrian Airlines CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech said,
"Sustainable fuel is the future of climate-neutral flying. We have been stressing this for a long time. Electric mobility, for example, will not be an aviation option for some time to come, as the batteries needed would be too heavy to get an aircraft into the air."
