"Go First" - The ultra low cost model (ULCC) !
Stepping down of Managing Director Jeh Wadia and elevation of Ben Baldanza as its Vice-Chairman, was an indication that Go air is set for some changes , and the change is visible today.
Go air is rebranding itself as an Ultra low cost carrier (ULCC) to expand its network and aircraft fleet as the airline believes, the ultra-low-cost carrier model will consolidate its position as a profit maker in a highly-competitive indian market.
Needless to say, Ben Baldanza - an industry veteran is behind the renovation , who has been with the airline from 2018 , as an advisor !
Ben Baldanza was the chief executive officer and president of Spirit Airlines from 2005 to 2016, a period in which he led the transformation of the company into an ultra-low-cost carrier.
The plan is simple, every space of the aircraft is meant for selling ! Apart from passenger revenue, advertising is another source. Advertising on every space avilable is worth, may it be the luggage bins, foldable seat back trays or even the paper cups. Also additional charge for baggages, each kilogram of it !
At an earlier occasion, Go air CEO Kaushik Khona had quoted ,
”While the sector is facing temporary headwinds, we at GoAir believe that the airline is uniquely placed with its inherent ultra-low-cost structure that has always stood us in good stead”
With a market share of around 10% in indian aviation, as of now, the carrier has 56 Airbus A320 aircrafts in its inventory and has a pending order of 98 aircrafts for expansion.
